I'm ready to start taking feedback on the Kumos layout - it's been shifting a ton over the last few weeks, and I think it's at a place now where it's not changing as much day over day.

I'll be making changes frequently - and sometimes there will be errors, so if you see something like the sidebar taking up 50% of the screen make the assumption that it's a bug and not a design choice. If it doesn't resolve in a few hours, make a post about it!

I'm taking mockups and specific feedback of how you'd like things to look, as well. How do you think forums should be formatted?

random kumos forum layout feedback list:

• we need an edit button on forum posts for kumos
• the react button on forum posts on kumos does not work for me. the pressing animation happens, but nothing pops up when i click it
• could the marquee-speed be slowed down a little? it's kind of fast enough to be disorienting (at least to me)
• i kind of wish the header of the post was a separate color like they are on legacy. that way it's easier to differentiate between posts (even just a few shades different than the background color would be fine)

will post again if i think of anything else

can we get a "toggie sidebar" button much like on the legacy site, that collapses the left sidebar?

i would love if the navigation menu was changed so the vertical padding around each of the links was part of it - terrible description lol i just took a screenshot (the red box is my preference)

i will definitely start thinking of some ideas for the forums ^^ i think moving the number of topics/posts/views to the "About this forum" sidebar might be nice, they're not that important that they should be the very first thing you see. i do feel like you have to scroll down too much before you actually see the topics so i think the subforums should be slimmed down in some way too. (will think about it)

users can see the "offical post" "highlight post" etc checkboxes under our replies, assuming that's not intentional lol. unless i became staff suddenly?!

i've got another one -- I know you likely pushed this pretty recently so apologies if you're already aware & working on it ^^ but the new Gold Account hovers contrast is waaaaay too low with the white text on yellow background

not sure if this is the right place to put this (i can't find a thread specifically about the CSS snippet feature) but will it be possible to "subscribe" to snippets but then deactivate them, while still keeping them in our list in case we want to re-enable them later? right now if you deactivate a snippet, it disappears from your list, and you have to find it again on the "popular snippets" page to re-subscribe to it. this makes experimenting with different combinations and changing your mind a bit of a hassle.

(EDIT: actually it looks like what's happening is that it deactivates the snippet and removes it from your "my subscriptions" list but technically keeps the "subscribed" designation so you have to go back to the "popular snippets" page, unsubscribe, and then resubscribe.)

there also seems to be a bit of confusion about the subpages within this feature. when i go to settings > CSS snippets, it takes me to a page that lists the snippets i've created, but there's also a tab labelled "create new snippet" which is highlighted as though this is the page i'm currently on—but it's not. clicking that tab takes me to the page to create a new snippet. i can also click on the "my subscriptions" or "popular snippets" tabs, where the "create new snippet" link has been renamed to just "create snippet." additionally, neither of these other pages links back to that original page that lists my own snippets; the only way to get back there is to click "create snippet" and then "back to snippets." so maybe there should be some more consistency wrt the tab titles and visibility so it's easier to navigate back and forth between these pages.

(also, will "popular snippets" eventually be renamed since it doesn't only show popular ones, it shows them all but you can sort by popularity or by date? or as more people add snippets, will that page only show ones above a certain level of usage, with another page to show all of them?)

also also. i am saying also a lot these days. even apart from the current username bug, the main forum page is such a mess... why is the top, like, 5000 pixels taken up by gigantic "recent" and "trending" sections that i can't even remove? (i can collapse them but they still take up more than the entire height of the page). they don't even seem to have unique classes/IDs so i don't know how to target them with custom CSS to remove them myself. can those maybe be made smaller, like put them side-by-side instead of all one on top of the other, and also have the option to just remove them entirely? or can you please just tell me how to do it myself with a CSS snippet, because i'm looking at the source code and i really can't figure it out and it's driving me nuts.

it looks like the "groups" link is meant to go inside the "important links" box but it's outside that box. which just has the "forum search" link inside. which just. that whole concept is bugging me. just have the links along the top of the page like it is on the legacy site. no need to make a gigantic box saying "the links are in here! look!" (and then not even actually have the important links in there... what... i'm so confused...)

and btw the marquee doesn't actually stay contained inside the "recent posts" box... it just overflows infinitely off the left and right side of the page. then again maybe that's just my browser once again not being able to handle the fancy code.

can also confirm there is no visible edit button for us regular users.

Nothing very problematic but the header picture for masquerade's theme is the same as default/centropolis' one. Also, I suppose we will have all of them at a given time but, can we have a saheric/sacred lands one please ?

Not sure if this the place to ask this out but. my kumos layout went blank the same day CCS custom were announced. I don't know if it it's in my end or in kumos end, I've waited a couple of days to see if it returns. But it doesn't load the page layout colors, I recall it was pale green.

And, now (this actually fits the theme), the quests. Forr mobile devices it makes sense to have the requested items in a single column, but from the PC user having the items that way makes the users to scroll down while there is a tons of space in the same file. Could the requested item be arranged in files for PCs?Just as the questers in the main quest page.

any chance you can add some fallback styling to the quest reputation progress bars and item hover info boxes? both appear transparent to me because my browser can't handle the tailwind styling, but i can't fix them myself with CSS snippets because they don't have unique classes so i can't edit them without breaking other page elements around the site.

[edit] also, something i've noticed: some pages load the typical "in-browser" way, i.e.:

• i click a link
• my browser's refresh button changes into an X which i can click to cancel the page load if i want
• i can also change my mind and click a different link, and that second page will load instead

but some load in a weird "in-frame" way, i.e.:

• i click a link
• my browser's refresh button DOES NOT change into an X
• a blue "loading" bar appears at the top of the page (within the page itself, not as part of my browser interface)
• if i change my mind and click a different link, the second page will start to load, or even finish loading—BUT the first page will cut it off or redirect me after the fact to force me to the first link i clicked

so that's kind of strange and also annoying. links shouldn't be able to usurp my last click like that.

The new item icons seem quite small, about 25% smaller than original legacy site, and it's a bit difficult to see and make out finer details (They appear normal size in personal inventory). This really comes down to personal preference but just wanted to bring it up in case anyone else had similar thoughts.

Is it true?! events were moved to a separate toggle like they are on legacy? Thank you!!!!!!

edit: Wait... The events delete themselves after you view them, whether you interact with them or not? er... 😨

will forum topics ever regain a "new unread posts" and "you've posted on this thread" icons? those are incredibly useful on the legacy forums. right now i just can't feel comfortable using the forums on kumos because they look like a jumbled mass of text with no visual distinction between each thread on the list, AND no clear way to see at a glance whether or not i've already read/posted in any of them.

They don't delete, they are "read" - there is a link to look at all of your "read" events.

This should keep the bar a little bit cleaner (and let you have some events that you keep around but don't have to look at) - but I'm going to tweak how quickly it moves it to read.

yeah i think they should at least stay in the "unread" section until you reload the page. otherwise what happens right now is you read one event, click the checkmark to delete it, and all the other events instantly vanish from view. like they're being marked as read before i can even read them, so then i have to take the extra step of clicking "show all" to see the rest of them, read them, and then delete them. i should be able to just go down the line one after the other.

Totally agree! Something weird / wrong is going on now, they'll continue to automatically pass over (after a few seconds) the 'read' tab, but I should have a fix for it on Monday!

Thanks for explaining. I don't know how to put this, but I personally don't see the point of it being like this. Not only was it not clear to me what was happening, but once you do figure it out (or are told what happens) there's a needless extra click to see all your notifications again?

Maybe I'm just used to how it is now and I'll get used to it. (I'm trying to be open to these changes!)

I think that "Show All" could be changed to "Show Read" because when you click it, then it gives you the option to "Show Unread" and just imo that makes it more obvious what is happening and what the difference is.

Coming from legacy site where the notifications don't go anywhere, you expect them to be there and not get moved elsewhere so when I saw "Show All" I honestly didn't get a single thought in my head other than watching my notifications disappear and being like "show all? yeah they should show all here, where'd they go?"

agreed tbh. i don't really understand what the benefit is of this system. obviously i want to look at and delete my notifications one at a time. i don't need the website deciding what i have and haven't read, let alone deciding that anything it thinks i've had enough time to look at should be moved out of sight, when at the end of the day i still need to go look at it, read it, potentially interact with any links within the event, and then delete it myself.
